Pet Dumping
Rise in lost dogs, despite laws

Taken from Today, Monday March 16, 2009

After reading the articles, I felt that our value of responsibility is very important. If you want to keep a pet, we should not let them get lost. Also, the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) have constantly reminding pet owner to microchip their dogs at veterinary clinics and license their dogs with the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority for the microchip to be effective. Even though one third of the dogs found were claimed back by their owner, however, the numbers that remain unclaimed is just too much. The lost dog cases might be getting out of control but the cases of lost cats have decrease a lot, about reduction of 600 annually. This might be due to the sterilization on stray cats which ultimately mean the lower in births rate. Thus the amount of lost cats is also reduce. I felt that the same method can also be implemented to stray dogs. Though the effect of this might not be immediate but the result of it will be definite.
